Italian Somaliland 294918140
Italian colony established in the Horn of Africa in the late nineteenth century which became part of Italian East Africa in 1936. In 1950 the UN designated it a Trust Territory and its administration was entrusted to the Italian government. The Territory of Somaliland under Italian administration, often referred to as 'Italian Somaliland' or simply as 'Somalia', became independent in July 1960 and was united with the former British Somaliland to form the new Somali Republic (Kirchherr, 1987).
