LCSH: nl; AE: nl; E: nl; PUB: Bondjo ethnicity is an artifact of French colonial ideology. When white settlers went up the Ubangi river at the end of the 19th century, they met 'Bangalas' (educable Blacks) and 'Bondjos' (ferocious cannibals). Already by the beginning of the twentieth century, doubt was beginning to be expressed about the existence of the Bondjo as an ethnic group.
