Location: present-day Nigeria and Benin, historically based on three kingdoms, Bussa, Illo and Nikki, partitioned in 1898 between the French colony of Benin (Nikki) and the British protectorate of Nigeria (Bussa, Illo and some of Nikki's eastern territories). The contemporary Borgu Emirate (1954- ) is a Nigerian traditional state with its capital in New Bussa, Niger State.
