BR. ASAR. The Kingdom of Bunyoro Kitara is one of the 4 kingdoms constituting the Republic of Uganda. The kingship was briefly suspended in 1966 by Prime Minister Dr A. Milton Obote and restored in 1993 by President Yoweri K. Museveni, but only as a ceremonial institution (Almanach). Reputedly founded by the mythical Abatembuzi people, who were succeeded by the Bachwezi (or Chwezi/Cwezi) dynasty (c. 1350-c. 1500) (Encyclopedia of African Nations and Civilizations, Diagram Group, 2002).
