MIS
HR. During the late 16th century the Jolof kingdom disintegrated into the rival kingdoms of Jolof, Walo, Cayor, Baol, Sine, and Saloum. Meanwhile, the Tukulor kingdom of Futa Toro in the northeast and the Mandinka-dominated kingdom of Kaabu in the southeast asserted their independence from the crumbling Mali empire. The capital of Kaabu was Kansala. The empire lasted until the 1860s when it was destroyed by the Fula of Futa Jalon.
