ASAR. The Mossi kingdom or Mossi states (ca. 1500-1900) were formed in the 16th century by Dagomba horsemen from Ghana called Nakomse, who established a rule over various local populations, such as the Dogon, Gurmantche, Gurunsi and Kurumba. The subjugated groups were collectively called Tengabisi, 'children of the earth'. They fall into three categories: Nyonyosi (descendants of the farmers), Saya (descendants of the blacksmiths) and Sikomose (afr. ethn.).
