HR. Shungwaya was a loose collection of city states, extending along the coast from Berbera in the Northeast to Tanzania in the South. These city states were political/economic systems based upon cities as trading centers that served large areas of nomadic and farming land around them. There were also smaller cities and villages, not as competing centers of political power, but more so as the hubs of trading and transportation networks emanating from the major city of the city state.
