Use only to obtain a list of the time periods, ranging from a millennium to a decade, used to specify descriptors such as 'history' and 'political conditions'. *** To search, use the first and the last year of the time period in question combined with a hyphen. Examples - for the twentieth century use 1900-1999, for the 1920s use 1920-1929, for the first half of the twentieth century use 1900-1949. *** Between 1000 and 1800, use only single centuries. *** After 1800, use single centuries, single half centuries or single decades. *** For the first millennium, use 0-999. *** For the period before 0, use pre-Christian era.

Gebruik tijdsperiode(s) in principe als het om redelijk specifieke tijdsbepalingen gaat, dus bv. níet bij publicaties over 3 eeuwen slavernij, 3 eeuw-descriptoren toevoegen. Voor tijdsperiodes na 1800 pas het ‘meer dan 50%’ principe toe: gebruik een halve eeuw als het om 3 of meer decades gaat en neem een decade op als het om 5 of meer jaren van die decade gaat (docuoverleg 30/10/2006).
