Scope note
Loosely defined, Nouchi is a French-based creole language. Nouchi emerged in Côte d’Ivoire in the late 1970’s (Ayewa 2005) as a lingua franca among uneducated urban youth and has since developed into the preferred language of Ivoirians in Abidjan and surrounding areas of Côte d’Ivoire (Kube-Barth 2009).
