Scope note
Split off from the United Party in 1959. From 1962 to 1974 Helen Suzman was the single elected MP for the party. The party disbanded in July 1975 and merged with the Reform Party, a group which had broken away from the United Party in February, to form the Progressive Reform Party, renamed the Progressive Federal Party in 1997.
